Air National Guard

Enterprise Level Inside Plant Services

The Information Transport System (ITS) Inside Plant Installation (ISP) for Air National Guard involved the ISP modernization at fourteen Air National Guard locations:

  • 141 Air refueling Wing, Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington ANG
  • Atlantic City Airport, Atlantic City, New Jersey ANG
  • Channel Islands Air National Guard Station, California ANG
  • Charlotte/Douglas Airport, North Carolina ANG
  • Fort Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania ANG
  • Harrisburg Airport, Pennsylvania ANG
  • Joint Reserve Base, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania ANG
  • Key Field, Meridian, Mississippi ANG
  • Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama ANG
  • Shepherd Field, Martinsburg, West Virginia ANG
  • Sky Harbor, Phoenix, Arizona ANG
  • Tucson Airport, Arizona ANG
  • W.K. Kellogg Airport, Battle Creek, Michigan ANG
  • Will Rogers World Airport, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ANG

The inside plant modernization delivered an integrated, high bandwidth, structured cabling system providing sufficient information transport capability to support current and future mission requirements of the Air National Guard (ANG).  The ANG upgraded all infrastructure  components; including telecommunications grounding connections, entrance facilities, communications cross-connects, communications equipment rooms, telecommunications closets, distribution support systems (raceways and pathways), communications cables, user outlets, riser systems, patch panels, patch cords, and mounting hardware.

IAW ISO 9001 Standards each base had an initial, mid-point, and final inspection; along with periodic quality inspections.  A thorough quality plan was implemented to ensure that each base adhered to the ADC cable manufacturer’s installation standards so that each location received a 20 year ADC warranty.

Trans-Tel closely coordinated the installation and cutover plan and limited the downtime for each location.  Once installation of new components was completed, all existing cable was removed and recycled.  Trans-Tel installed over 7 million feet of CAT 6 communications cable and over 1 million feet of fiber optic cable.

Upon completion of each location Trans-Tel tested and certified the installed cable and delivered “as built” drawings along with Visio rack elevations to government officials.  In addition to the installation activities, training was provided to military personnel at each location for cabling system installation practices, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.
